Sweater Weather

Who doesn't love a good sweater? They're soft, warm and comfortable. Sweaters are the clothes we celebrate the winter holidays in, and as such they have a kind of homeyness attached to them.

It is most definitely sweater weather. Nebraska is still experiencing some temperature variation, but we're to the point where a sweater is always a good idea. I like thin sweaters that can be layered under jackets in the fall. They allow you to start playing with texture without being too warm.

Sometimes sweaters are dresses too! This sweater from last year's Tracee Ellis Ross collab with JCP is my all time favorite sweater dress that I've ever owned. The moment I saw it I knew it was the sweater dress I'd been searching for my whole life. No, really. I have a distinct memory of picking out a dress just like this for my Barbie doll to wear when I was around 5 years old. I also remember being jealous that I couldn't wear the dress. So really, I've been looking for this dress my whole life. The color is a beautiful heather red, it's light weight and has a classic turtle neck (making it great for layering). I also love the length and the cuffed hem. This dress always lays just right.

I paired it with the perfect 80s style jean jacket (exalted in a previous blog post) because there is definitely something very 80s about the dress. It reminds me of what the gorgeous Sigourney Weaver wore in the first Ghostbusters. Kind of a hybrid between what she was wearing when the eggs started cooking on her kitchen counter and the Zuul dress. Again, this style has roots that can very distinctly be traced back to my childhood.
