Something I've figured out about myself is that patterned pants inspire me. I'm always drawn to them because they make a statement, and when well styled they look killer. In some ways they are harder to style because they demand creative thinking. They will definitely push you to try new things.

I first spotted these red plaid pants on ASOS in December and liked them immediately, but wasn't sure if I would like them on me. I tend to only wear slim or skinny legged pants. I finally decided to take the plunge into a wider leg pant and was crushed to find they had sold out. I put them out of my mind, but then last week I saw they were back on the ASOS site and only available in my size. It was a sign. I snapped them up and was thrilled to find that I liked the wider, tapered leg.
I woke up Saturday morning to a beautiful, but cold, sunny morning and decided to take flat lay photographs of some outfit ideas featuring the red plaid pants. I found so many great options that weren't just a solid colored top. The plaid itself is a tartan with red, blue, yellow, green and white thread. Once I got started thinking of different ways to style these pants I couldn't stop! These pants present a great opportunity to do some print mixing. I love them with the houndstooth and leopard print. I also like the monochome look of pairing them with a different color of red on top. When it was time to actually shoot one of the looks I ended up finding yet another option.

These pants have a definite '90s punk/rock vibe. Styling them with a band tee seemed like a no brainer. This yellow and blue Nirvana tee pulls in the less notable colors from the plaid. I really love the high waist on these pants and the accompanying D-ring belt. The waist has gathered elastic at the back making it very comfortable to wear these high on your waist.

I can see wearing these pants with lots of different T-shirts and sneakers when the weather finally gets warmer. Actually, I have a leopard print T-shirt that I just realized would look fabulous paired with them! The pants come already cuffed, but can be rolled even more to create a spring style.
